What's Up 4.23.18

Good Morning and a congratulation to Prince William and Kate, Duchess of Cambridge on their new son. Such a sweet family, the children are so cute.

We had a good slow rain this weekend with no severe weather, which is odd. We have not had a tornado since last October here in Oklahoma. In fact California which never had that many before have had 5 already this season. I don't know but maybe global warming could be a factor.

So while inside I worked on the Kith and Kin top.

Was able to get two more blocks completed

This makes 6 completed and which mean that I have 3 more to do. Went ahead and cut them out but instead of putting them up on the wall like I usually do, I put them up on the portable design wall.

The wall has the Vintage Garden quilt up and I plan to keep it there until I have the border finished.

This has scallops around each block and also all around the outside edge.

Now the directions I have are a copy from the book, never had the book. But the directions I have say nothing about how to go about finishing the border. I went ahead and did the 3 on the right but when it came to how to go about the scallop on the outer edge I'm not that confident on how to go about it. Seeing how I purchased this BOM 10 years ago I know there is no way to get more fabric and I would hate to cut and make a mistake. I would be in a pickle.

So I went and ordered the book, that goodness it was still available and not at a inflated price.

Not like the book I would like to find of Blackbird Designs,
I have quite a few of their books, love their patterns.
The one I would love to get is no longer in print and that is

In Full Bloom

If someone out there has this book and would like to sell, trade or would love to work something out
Please let me know.
Email is samspalace2@hotmail.com

I would make it worth your effort.

  1. I got a lot of BB Designs books but not that one. I hope someone out there has it for you. It's frustrating to have an idea in mind and no way to bring it about. The scallop borders between your Vintage Garden Quilt blocks is a sweet addition.

  6. Your Blackbird Designs quilt is so pretty - and I wouldn't know how to do those scallops either. Glad you were able to get the book. I don't have the other book you are looking for, or I would give it to you. I have a UFO of their design - Birds of a Feather. It's waiting for me to finish it. Thanks for linking with Design Wall Monday, I apprecaite you. Judy

How to Make a Portable Design Wall

I had wanted to get a portable design wall to take to retreats but did not want to pay the price. Looked at various pins on pinterest and took ideas from more than one to come up with my verison. It worked out great and only cost a fraction of the price. The PVC pipes, joints and 2 yards of felt cost under $22.00 My design wall is 4' x 4' which stands approximately 5 1/5' tall. For this size need 2 - 10ft length of 3/4" PVC pipe for the frame and 4ft of 1" PVC pipe for the feet Cut the 3/4" PVC into 4 - 4' section                                                                                       2 - 1' section              Cut the 1"  PVC into 4 - 1' section        ...

Yarn Along 2/20/13 Spoon Pin Doily

It's snowing here and I know some of you are tired of snow but here we will take the moisture any way we can get it. Plus it just gives me a reason to stay in and work on some of my projects. In this picture I'm not sure if you can make it out but in the background there are some wild turkeys that hang around the house sometime, just  chilling This project I'm working on is Spool Pin Doilies.   I had never heard of them before until Bonnie Hunter had mentioned it on her blog . She a had a viewer send her one for her sewing machine along with a pattern. I did not like the pattern but loved the idea so I decided to make up my own version. I wanted a more simple, smaller and fuller doily. So I tried different thread sizes to get one that I like. (From left to right) I tried sock yarn, which I'll redo because I think I like that look. Heavy weight crochet thread, nope too big Bamboo yarn, I like it. Looks good on my Kenmore. Pearl c...
