A Nice Little Quilt Show

At my church yesterday we had  a quilt show which was a nice little show. We were able to raise a bit of money for the Susan G. Komen "For the Cure". There was a total of 59 quilts, which included the challenge quilts called "It's Raining Cats and Dogs" #3 won 1 st ,   #1 won 2 nd   and #2 won 3 rd in viewer choice. and the display of Sister in Scripture Quilts. We had 8 quilts total. Here are a few of quilts that were displayed in the show. Barbara Davis made this quilt many years ago her daughter said. We lost Barbara this year. I love this block, I looked it up and did not fine the exact block in BB Encyclopedia but it could be a variation of the block Peaceful Hour. I just going to have to try to draft this one up. Shirley Cowen made this quilt, it was a BOM from Sager Creek Quilt Shop . I have started this one also and it is now on my PH-D list. She did an excellent job on hers. Another one by Shi

Some of This and That

It has been a couple of days since I last post and it is not because I could not think of anything but because I have been busy doing a little of this and that. So bear with me and I will just be somewhat general in giving you some updates of my doings. Do not want to bore you. But where do I start, let's see Monday I was able to finish another snowman block. I have 2 block left and then need to assemble. Oh ya and all those snowflakes. That evening I did crochet 2 more but I'll wait to show you those when I have more. And being able to buy them by the bag at Hobby Lobby is a no, they do not have them this year. I guess I'm just going to have to keep crocheting. I also made some Red Pepper Jelly from chili peppers I grew this year. I had 5 plants of various kinds and I thought I had pick some really hot ones but I guess not because my jelly just has enough kick to it to know it's chili but not enough to make you want to pull your tongue out. I'

yeppe I can start

It came and I have my fabric picked and now I just have to decide what I will use as the border fabric. This is the fabric I picked, it is the Adelaide collection by Michelle Hill. Like I mention I have to decide what will take the place of the red dot fabric. I was thinking maybe one of these Or maybe one of these, just do not know yet I said I was going to make this my winter project, so you could say I have a little time but I am so excited I'm not sure I can wait. I am suppose to be getting issue 2 and 3 also but I heard they are waiting for a shipment. I was able to get the magazine from the shop Buggy Barn, which I was surprised, it's not really what I think of them having. Not their style but I glad they do. Till next time Kat =^..^=

Woo-Hoo WIP done

This is a Jo Morton quilt done in her new line "Sweet Emilie". All those hourglass squares and then there are over 550 1 inch squares. Boy I am so glad it turned out as well as it did. The picture does not do it justice.  I started working on my "Beyond The Cherry Tree".   Oh heaven , the WIP list just keeps getting longer.  What am I going to do with myself One of these days I am going to figure out and post all that I have in WIP's. But to make me feel better, I will also put up what I have completed. Then maybe I can breath a little. Till next time Kat =^..^=

Love to applique

I wanted to share some of the quilts tops that I have completed this year. The pictures are not the best The designer of this Sunflower quilt in Marilyn McSpadden. The same designer who design the Snowman Quilt. I have someone special in mind to quilt this one. This is a pattern I found in a McCalls magazine. I'm going to have this one quilted by my aunt.   This one is from a book titled Ruby Red Dots from Kansas City Star Publishers  Unfortunately I did not get all the quilt in the picture and this is the only picture I have of it. Because right now and has been hanging in a friends quilt shop.  It has applique border that is really a nice touch. This one is going to be hand quilted. Do you notice a common theme, I love to applique, whether it is by hand or on the machine. I am working on a couple others also. Till next time Kat =^..^=

Hooray

Yeppy !!!! I finished the top I started, from oh,  just a couple of years ago. But if you were around a month ago you know that I decided to finish this. I was making it my 4th of July project.  I did well but then it came to a halt because I didn't have enough fabric for the border. I was able to find border fabric at a local quilt shop. What do you think? So now I have another one checked off my list of WIP.  I really need to make a list of all the projects I have in various stages. I know I'll be shocked when I do. Till next time Kat =^..^=

A new Block of the Month

I had just come across this. If you have been to Dawn 's blog Linen Closet Quilt you already know about the new online BOM she has started. If not you should check it out.                                                              The quilt is called Hartfield She has up the first block and it is free up until the 15th. It will be a combination of applique and pieced blocks. The first one is applique and is rather nice. I think I'll give it a shot. Oh, heck there goes a sign of A.D.D. again. How does that saying go, "idle hands are the devils workshop". I think I might have that one covered right now Till next time Kat =^..^=

Time's up

Well I work on these blocks like I said I would but was not able to get it finished. Because of it not as hot as  yesterday was,  I found myself out in the garden half the day. I did get over half of the top done and a good ideal of what it is going to look like.  Also after working on it yesterday I realized I did not have the fabric for the border. Did not get that far, so it didn't matter.  I have to make a confession, I did not use the thangles. What I did was draw the marks that are on the thangles papers on the back of the strips. I do not like to rip out the papers. That is one reason why I do not do much paper piecing. Then the pieces that are around the center blocks I used Deb Tucker's ruler  the "Tucker Trimmer". To me it was easier and took less time. What's left to do.                                                           Hope you had a fun and safe 4th.

Red, White & Blue

To celebrate our Independence and it is not going to a barbecue or fireworks. It is just way too hot for me to enjoy being outside unless I was getting wet. So I'm staying in the air conditioning and going to work on a WIP.  This is a thangles promotion they had, where each month for a buck you get enough fabric and the pattern to make the center of a block. The center is a 7" block. Then had to purchase or use stash for the remaining fabric that is used to make the 14"  block. I had 2 - 14" blocks done and  3- 7" centers. I love the colors and how appropriate for the fourth of July. So my goal is to work on this for the next few days and see what I get done by the end of the holiday. Hopefully I will have the top done. I haven't decided if I'll make it a full (72" wide x 92" long) or queen (81" wide x 97" long). You want to check out their website it's thangles.com .

Old Beauties

This week the Northwest Arkansas Quilt Study Group met. We meet once a month and have a program given by a member. This month Charlotte E. shared a few of her quilts from her collection. She has a very large collection. Here is part of what she brought. I want to say it was a privilege to see them and big thank you.

Oh what a beautiful morning

What a beautiful sunrise it was. Mornings are my favorite time of the day. Something about the light in the morning, just makes me in awe of all that is created. I went to T-Town today and then had to wait for the A/C repairman this afternoon. Never fails, we're in the middle of a early heatwave and the A/C desides to quit yesterday. Oh I am so in appreciation for this morning sunrise. My ray of hope. And A/C back on  "Whoopi" I did finially finish this doll quilt. It only took 4 years from start to finish. You would of thought I had been working on a king size quilt. But it was one of those project's I would work on then put it aside for another, then another, work on it and again put aside. I have a bad habit of doing that. Really need to concure that demon.

Eye Candy

Today was our small group who meet under the direction of Chris Clardy.  It is always well worth the drive for me. You see it is, about 45 miles from my home. I know its a way but it is a pretty drive most of the way.  Today we had quite a few quilts shown. Here are just a portion of them. This is one of Donna's A. This was a family heirloom. Made by her grandmother for her brother. Isn't this the sweetest little horse pattern. Lots of detail in stitching. This was Kathleen's anniversary quilt. Each block represent someone in her family. Love the flag. This a one of Marcia R. Just gorgeous, Marcia does beautiful work After seeing this taste of what was there. Would you not think it was worth the drive
