A little update

It's been a busy and sometimes hectic past two days. I've been meaning to write but just couldn't get the time to do it. Tuesday at Sager Creek Quilt Shop in Siloam Springs Arkansas, my friend Pam Goggans, had a blockbuster class. It's a once a month class using Deb Tucker's trimmers. And by the way Pam has another one of her patterns published,  this one was in the July/August issue of Fons and Porter's magazine, Quilting Quickly.  Even though I have been using these trimmers for a few years now I always seem to learn something new. And this month was no exception. Learn how to make these shaded 4 patches units. I've seen the demo sheet and even have talked about it at quilt shows when we're there at the booth but personally have never made one.  My goodness they are so easy to make this unit that looks so complicated. Here is a brief example of the steps taken to make the unit. And here is a link to one of Deb Tucker's...

What's Up 07.18.16

What's up on the wall this week will be the "Words to Live By. Last week I was able to complete all the 12 inch blocks and now ready to sew the setting triangles on.  Been working steadily on the HST, have the fabric marked and ready to sew. Started with 28 pieces that marked for making the HST and now I'm down to nine. I have sewn some of the half square triangles.  Waiting to be trimmed.  And have completed trimming over 250 of the HST. So looking forward to having all of these HST completed so I can start assembling the center block and the borders. 672 HST it's quite a few. The center is almost done, just 2 leaves left to be appliqued and doing the stems. I've been so busy trying to get this quilt top completed that I have put off my circles and my rainbow scrap challenge. Sunday Bliss

It's been a few days since I had last written but it's because I have been so busy that I haven't wanted to stop and write. I'm sorry I have a new addiction, like I need another one, it's weaving. While at my daughters in May, I came across this little rigid heddle loom. It's a Schacht Cricket 10" Loom. A little one. Wasn't sure if this was something I would like or be able to master, so a small one made since. Thought was didn't want to spend too much on something I had no idea about what I was getting into. Knowing that knitting, crocheting and all other handwork aggravates my carpel tunnel and can only do so much before it starts to bother me.  And I have all this yarn in my stash that I want to use. Made a few scarfs but had to stop and rest, doesn't help that hand sewing affects the wrist also. I have to pick and choose what to work on. Figure weaving would be easier on the wrist and it is. It's very f...

Week 2 & 3 on porch veggies

I meant to give an update last week but for some reason I can't stop writing about other stuff and kept putting off my update for week two.  Have had tremendous success so far with my container garden on the back porch. I reseeded the lettuce and as you can see it's coming up and we now have a full pot baby lettuce. Need to start thinning out the first seedlings, not going to throw them away thou, I'm going to rinse them off and put them in my salad, it's having micro greens. It's time to start also another batch of radishes. I seem to have a hard time with radishes. They come up but sometimes a portion of them do not bulb up. Need to look that up and find out why. The eggplants has flowered and now can see what looks like developing eggplant.  The parsley it's coming up but see no signs of the chives germinating. The tomatoes are getting big and blooming. Really surprised how well these volunteered tomatoes...

What's Up 07.11.16

I hope you're not tired of this yet but I have more progress to report on the "Words to Live By" Yesterday I corrected the mistake I made and fused down the remaining pieces to the center block. I can say now that, all I have to do is blanket stitch and do a little embroidering That black fabric is all cut, setting squares and the HST.  I still have a few other blocks and you can tell from this picture with the vacant spots for the smaller 12 1/2 inch blocks. Still need to do some detailed embroidered on them. I don't have all the setting triangles cut out on my design wall, it's not as big as my quilt it is. I want to redo the design wall. That is one of the things I would like to do after the carpet is laid, being that all the stuff will be out of the room.  One that goes from the ceiling to the floor, right now I have a gap in both areas. I've also started on the half square triangles I ha...

Love Sundays

I love Sunday for so many reasons and one is spending time with "The Man of the Place". We don't see enough of each other.  A lot of our time is sitting and talking or watching movies or something, that's a great time for hand work. Last night while watching the finale of Outlander I was working on this block. By looking at it, it just didn't quite looked balanced, missing something. Oh crap, a set of berries. Looked at the picture  and sure enough I left them out, how can that be. Funny how we see what we think is correct. That means I'll need to remove and move these pieces over to the right to make room for the berries I left out.  Now I haven't done much ripping out of an appliqued piece, especially wool. Thank goodness the wool is of very good quality, very little stretch.  Plus using Soft Fuse on this made it come off nicely and surprisingly I was able to refuse it down. That is wh...

Finally Decided

It's been 5 years, 1 month and 9 days This comes with my deepest gratitude for all who have been coming by.   Never thought I would still writing all this time. Meant to celebrate on the actual date but I wanted to be able to do something special for you.  I have thought and thought about it but everything I think of is so blab, blab, blab. Then I figure I'm not a very exciting person, just average I guess. First it was a gift basket of quilting patterns and gadgets. Then I thought well not everyone is a quilter. Ok how about a gift certificate to The Fat Quarter Shop, that way if you are into other sort of textile crafts that would work. But what about other fibers like yarn. So I thought a certificate to the yarn shop I go to, Loops in Tulsa. What if the person wasn't into fibers but like to garden or chickens or ........ That's when I just thought about doing like the first anniversary  and give a gift certifi...
