80's in February

Hard to believe it is  February with the temperatures in the 80's. Will be again tomorrow. Worked outside some but not as much as I should of been doing.  Today I had to wait for servicemen to come and check out the new dishwasher. It hadn't worked like it should so I called them to check on it. I thought it might of been off balance but actually it has a faulty door and control panel. Now I have to wait for another to replace it. Thank goodness I didn't have surgery. Yesterday I did make a few more Retro Air-Ship Propeller blocks. Slowly I'm getting that one done. I don't remember how many I'll need but do know I have quite a few left to make. Check this out............... 14 eggs today, the girls are liking this warm weather. Today I started on the string quilt Made large and small pieces to cut out the 4 1/2" squares from. Now I do not use a foundation, just sew the strips together.  Now the strips are not s

The wall started out this morning looking like this and ended up looking like that. Finished the back for the baby top using the scraps leftover from the top. Tried my best to make it look ok. I don't do pieced back often... next will be to get batting and sandwich it. Before I did that I had started on pressing, trimming and organizing this tub of scraps. I'm going to start a string quilt and had some strings already but while doing the scraps I was able to add some more.  I think I have a good amount now. I like this pattern I found in a Fons and Porter magazine.  Fons and Porter and Quiltmania are the only magazines I get and I can find something I want to make in each issue. Out of curiosity, what if any magazines you like?  patchwork times love laugh quilt cooking up quilts

Five On Friday

To was a day of firsts and finishes. Last night another one of the heifers had her calf. Cute little black one. I think it's a little girl by the looks of her delicate features. The girls laid 13 eggs today. To think they started laying the beginning on the month. Started with one egg a day to now 13.  Yesterday there was 10. Another first  Sauerkraut is finished doing it's  thing. Made this batch last month and now it's time to move to other jars and put in the frig. Ended up with 5 quarts. Another finish is the Birds of a Feather today. Went together so nicely and when quilted it's going in my livingroom. It measures 67 X 76 Good size lap quilt. Then the last is a little about my first time trip to The Mercantile (Ree Drummond's store) in Pawhuska Oklahoma. Had a great time and the building is so beautiful. They did a great job making it look like a new old store.  We

Hump Day

Boy it turned out to be such a pretty day. Ended up doing chores this afternoon, cleaning out the nesting boxes and collected 7 eggs today. The girls are working hard these days. one is out of the shot Checked on the heifers, there are nine of them that I'm responsible for and of the nine... four of them have had calves. They are so cute. That's right, I'm so cute.... I'm still putting up the last of the outdoor Christmas decoration. The inflatables needed to put in their boxes. I had them in a chair on the porch, just hadn't packed them away. Then put up all the electric cords. Done finally. Did do some sewing. Made the flying geese and now I'm trimming them all, 120 of them. Sewing the woven fabric is a little tricky. Stretches  some and didn't think about how the fabric was directional and when putting the units together it did not go all in the same direction.  I don't care for that

Prepping Day

It's been a nice rainy day, a slow steady rain.  Something we have needed so badly.  Since I finished those tops yesterday, I spent the day prepping a couple things.  Did 10 more Retro Air-Ship Propeller blocks.  Had cut out most of the pieces but was lacking some of the background.  Doing it old school, with cardboard templates. Did that.   Then started on a new one I had picked up the fabric last year on the bus trip we had at the shop.   Loved the fabric, hard to describe.  It is textured woven not printed designed. Colors are muted taupes.   It is from Fons and Porter magazine and is all flying geese. 120 of them. That's if I do the size in the magazine, have enough to make it a little bigger if I want.  I been meaning to show how many eggs the girls are giving out now.  It ranges from 6 - 8 eggs a day and this is 3 days worths.  I'm back in the eggs business now.  Some show and tell from tonight. What's Up 2.13.17

OK... I'm a day early here but not in Australia and Europe. Cat lap quilt is completed. Was able to get the border on first thing this morning. Turned out so nice.  Took pictures on the wall and outside. So next up was the blocks for the friendship quilt. Ended up with an odd number of blocks, which when it came to laying it out I just had to do the best I could figure out, wasn't too bad. It will work. Cut the corner unit and side triangles  And even was able to get this all put together. Not bad, it only took me 8 years to finish. It was a good day  2 completed tops.
