Friday Finishes

I have been busy but not at sewing the past week
Was able to make a few blocks of the Retro Air-Ship Propeller. If you hadn't read all about earlier this month about how Karen and I are both making. You can see the post here about the pattern and how to get free copy or one to purchase.
I can add here that after writing that post, Deb at Frugal Little Bungalow decided she was going to join in the fun. I think that is wonderful and I think the more the merrier.

Well started out with this block



Now my thoughts were this was going to be a good pattern to use up some of the fat quarters and scraps. Which is what I'm going to do,


Here are the two we decided we would make for the month.

But if know anything about me I sometimes can just stop when I find a good idea. 
This is a 1930's pattern and I do have a large collections of 30's reproduction fabric. Which was obvious when it came to moving it out of the sewing room.
Came across a tub of fabric that was pink and turquoise 30's
I like that combo and figured I would make a 30's quilts, well that day is here.
  


So here are another set for the month.
For the background on these will be the same fabric instead of a variety like the others. I like Kona Cotton Snow when making 30's quilts.

Also want to share what little progress on the Words to Live By 


So far I have one side done and half of another.



I think it takes longer to place them like I like then it does to sew them together.


It is a lot of HST. 
Getting it done slowly.

    The words to live by is the ultimate quilt for me it is simply gorgeous.

    Those propeller blocks look great. The pink and turquoise quilt is going to be really fun, it's a color combination that you don't see often.

    I need to get back to working on my blocks - I have been concentrating on finishing a different quilt but now that I am to the point I am I can get some more of these made.

    I like the colors in the first set as well as the second. A good idea to do the 30's one if you have a lot of those fabrics; it's going to be lovely!

Yarn Along 2/20/13 Spoon Pin Doily

It's snowing here and I know some of you are tired of snow but here we will take the moisture any way we can get it. Plus it just gives me a reason to stay in and work on some of my projects. In this picture I'm not sure if you can make it out but in the background there are some wild turkeys that hang around the house sometime, just  chilling This project I'm working on is Spool Pin Doilies.   I had never heard of them before until Bonnie Hunter had mentioned it on her blog . She a had a viewer send her one for her sewing machine along with a pattern. I did not like the pattern but loved the idea so I decided to make up my own version. I wanted a more simple, smaller and fuller doily. So I tried different thread sizes to get one that I like. (From left to right) I tried sock yarn, which I'll redo because I think I like that look. Countdown to Autumn. 18 days

  After some thought I came up with a general "get to" list for a pre - Autumn preparation. I had mentioned a couple in the last post. I will keep those and have added a few more. I needed to remind myself that a lot of my ideas are a little premature hance the pre autumn and will be better done next month. So here is what I came up with... Deep cleaning is still on Planning activity for next month Decorating inside and out.   Making a fall outfit, sewing and knitting Find some new recipes to try Make a pair of fall or Halloween socks I will be focus on journaling with Autumn being the present subject.  Making sourdough bread again This one I have already started, Watching a cozy, feel good show. So "the man of the place" and are rewatching PBS All Creatures Great and Small. In a matter of a couple days we have watched season 1.
