Doing a voice check

I have just realized while doing dishes. That maybe I could do a voice dictation on the Kindle for my blog.  You know what, it works.  It's a little fussy but it does work. So maybe I can just do dictation and not have to worry about how slow at typing I am.  Then all I have to do is just add my pictures.  This is really cool.  It's amazing what you can think of when you're doing something else.  Maybe I'll be able to post more often, (let's hope) seeing how part of my reason is because I am a slow typist and it takes me a while to write a post and time is an issue but this might take care of that.  Now if I can just master my camera that I have it so I can take pictures with that instead of my iPhone. Speaking of I Phone's,  there is an app  for Google Blogger (also  androids ) which I have used. Seeing how the phone does have the microphone but I found tho often will not write the word I said, so I would have a lot of editing to d

Summer means Ice Tea

Summertime, Summertime . Here in the Northern Hemisphere we had our summer solstice, I know in the Southern Hemisphere it's your winter solstice.   ( I love winter ) Being summer here means ice tea time, some love it all year but I'm one who drink it mostly in the summer. Sun tea is the way I usually make my ice tea and have for more years than I can remember. For those of you who haven't made this, what I do is use a gallon glass jar, add cold water and I use 8-10 tea bags (cup bags). Sit it outside in the sun and in about 2 - 4 hours it should be done. Now this is my favorite ice tea but I have been introduced to a herbal tea that has become a new favorite. I don't mind herbal teas but just haven't found one I cared for as an iced tea.  My daughter had this at her place when I went there last month and   everyone was ranting and raving about it. So I had to try it to see what all the hooting was about. Well you know what, it is

Where Have I Been

Barbara Brackman has a New Blog. She started it 3 weeks ago. I can't believe its been that long since I last read her blog.  What have I been doing ? http://historicallymodernquilts.blogspot.com/ I am so excited over this new blog and just had to share with one's who don't know like me. One of the posts she wrote about was just up my alley, Prairie School design resembling Frank Lloyd Wright's work. Oh my did my heart start beating fast. That is one thing you do not see much in quilting is patterns that is designs influence by the Arts and Crafts movement of over a decade ago. If you look hard enough you can find some but to have Barbara bring it to the forefront just gets me excited. But one thing that didn't click in my mind until now is why I find myself drawn to some of the modern quilts, (I consider myself a traditionalist) but maybe I drawn to them  because of  the simplicity that resembles the Craftsman style. Even though she will have a

My Slow Sunday

Today has been a very relaxing, slow Sunday. The weather has been cold, rainy and a just stay inside day. So the "Man of the Place" and I finished our taxes, boy what a relief. Then the wild turkeys that have been coming around the house for the past month decided that a few of them wanted to just hang out and do some preening on our fence. Boy turkeys are big birds, I enjoy having them around to watch. You see I have a thing for turkeys besides eating turkey for Thanksgiving. I have a collection of Turkey Platters and a couple of Turkeys on the nest. They are not that easy to find in the antique s hops around here. I've seen them on ebay but haven't bought any. Any way back to my slow day,  For dinner I made Navy Beans with Ham Hocks and Cornbread using the Buttermilk I made . It what I call COMFORT FOOD.  Now for what I've been working on today is the socks I started this past Tuesday and I have to say for what little time I have spent knit

What came home with me

One thing fun about working the quilt shows is coming home with some new fabric. Except I did not get fabric at the show but on the way at a couple of shops we stopped at. A few fat quarters. You know that means my stash report changed this past week, I added but did not use any. Found some ombre fabric in these wonderful colors. They will work wonderful in appliqueing.      I have this panel already and I was looking for some coordinating fabric so I could sew it up and give it to the "little dudes"    Then another cloth book. They love their cloth books I have made for them. A book on modern mixed quilts. I'm thinking my daughter Laura might like one of the designs.  All I can say is I love Bareroots designs.  These are so cool, I have plan to make them for the boys. I have a lot of thought going through my mind on what fabric color, patterns and how to do their names. This pattern I saw a couple o

What's New

I wanted to share a couple of new things that I found. One is this blog hop about Jill Finley's new book. What little I have seen so far it look like a nice book. http://jillilystudio.blogspot.com/p/blook-tour.html Then on Pinterest I saw this recipe for Peanut Butter Popcorn. I am a big fan of popcorn and I like to try new ways when I come across them. I made it tonight and this one is good. Their picture looked better than mine, so I'm taking liberties and using this one. You'll find this one and more at  http://www.thekitchn.com/ Peanut Butter Popcorn makes about 8 cups 1/4 cup popcorn kernels Vegetable oil Fine salt 1/2 cup honey 1/3 cup sugar 1/2 cup peanut butter (should be free of added sugar) 1/2 teaspoon vanilla Have a clean paper shopping bag or oversized mixing bowl ready. Heat a 4-quart heavy pan over medium heat and film the bottom with vegetable oil. When the oil is hot but not smoking, add the popcorn, shake to distribut

I need your help, good or bad sauerkraut?

I need your help, please. About two months ago I made a batch of sauerkraut and when I came home from California I noticed that it was dark near the top of the jar. I simply don't know what that means, I can guess. This is the first time I have attempted to make my own sauerkraut. I'm not one who normally eat sauerkraut but I'm trying to add more fermented foods to my diet. I had read that homemade was better for you and taste  better than store bought. So I checked my books and the internet, then decided to make it in a jar. I did not realize you could and was so excited I could seeing how I do not own a crock. Now seeing how it has darken, I do not know if it is any good, so I'm seeking your help. The blue tape is showing where the brine is at. And this is what it looks like inside. Smell just fine, like what sauerkraut should smells like. There is no visible mold, bubbles or frothiness. P.S. I have had it on the counter the whole time. Shoul

Loving My Crock Pot

OK,  now you will need go get a paper sack, you will be hyperventilating for sure now. Three posts in 24 hours might be my all time record. But like I said in the last post, I was trying something new in the crock pot.  I would not say that I am one who has lived a sheltered life but you would think so. I had not heard of cooking a chicken this way but it has been around for at least 6 years. So you probably already know about making a  rotisserie style chicken in the crock pot, I'm hoping though there is at least someone out there who hasn't too. So easy and soooo good  You'll need foil and take pieces and roll into balls Place them in your crock pot, I used 8. You will place your chicken on top of those balls. You do not add any liquid. Now I seasoned the bird by rubbing it with olive oil and sprinkling on some seasoning. Use any type of seasoning you like.  Now I had read about many different settings and time lengths. one

A New BOW and MY NewFO

http://grandmotherschoice.blogspot.com Oh my, now don't hyperventilate  or anything cause I have written 2 posts in 24 hours but I'm home and feel like writing. It has been too long and I have the need. So I wanted to share a couple of new things with you, one is from that wonderfully interesting Quilt Historian Barbara Brackman . She is at it again with giving us a fascinating look into history. She has chosen a look into the Rights For The Women Vote. Here is a copy of a little intro to what she wrote in her blog, better said than I could write Women in the United States won the right to vote, women's suffrage, in 1920, a centennial anniversary we will be celebrating in seven years or so. But I thought it would be a good idea to start a memorial quilt in the early teens because the fight for that national right took so long. This is her plan as written on her blog, Grandmother's Choice is the logo for this Block of the Week. For the next 49 weeks

A Tuesday Treasure

Over at  The House on the Side of the Hill  she has a linky party where you share a treasure and mine I'm sharing is one of my egg cup holder. It is right now, one of my favorites.  This is a vintage 6 egg cup holder I call My Monks, these are Weiss Pottery Monks, so it can easily chip. I have not had them appraised so I going to give a guess on age but I was told at the time I bought them they were from 1930's.  I think they are just so happy and they put a smile on my face every time I look at them. Love them. So this is my treasure. Till Next Time Kat =^..^=

Home Sweet Home

It is so good to be back home, except for one thing the little dudes are back in California. They are so cute and will grow so much before I get to see them again, but my daughter promise to send me lots of pictures.                   Blake                               Ben                                     "The man of the place" did a great job keeping all the plants alive, in fact he did such a good job, the weeds in the veggie patch are something else. I have been working on cleaning them up. Just see for yourself In there somewhere.are the tomatoes I planted 6 weeks ago  There they are  He also did a great job keeping "the girls" happy. He had so many eggs to deal with, he ended up selling the eggs that I usually take care of. So I need to update my numbers.   Then I finally was able to pick up my new car when I came back home. It has been a long wait. We order it back in February, and could not believe it too

Cool Egg Stuff

I have been spending a lot of time looking and holding the twins that I haven't doing much of any thing else. But today I went to get the babies a stroller and car seats, and we took a detour to Home Goods store. I wish we had one of these in Oklahoma. The closest one is in Texas or  Hot Springs Arkansas. Great prices.  I found these cute egg cooking implements  This one is for cooking a single egg that will fit perfectly on a English muffin or bagels. And these two are just too cute, love the grumpy face on the egg, left one is a separator and the right one is for mashing hard boiled eggs for egg salad. It said you can mash potatoes but I think it would have to be an awful small potato. I think it will look cute just standing up on the counter . Little note on the twins, they are still in NICU but are making good progress. Blake is eating more and was bigger at birth and still is bigger, Ben is smaller and doesn't eat as much, gets most of his food
