Slow Stitch Sunday plus some

I thought I would make this post one of a little of this and a little of that. Well what should be first, I think I'll start with the stash report. Added 6 yards to go with the quilt I'm making for my daughter. I did get a quilt bound this afternoon but I had  counted it  already  I believe so all I can show is a picture. My total numbers are located on the side. Besides doing the binding on this, for my slow stitching Sunday I am doing a little embroidery on the 30's row quilt. Just a simple stem stitch will do the trick. I have 4 blocks to do. Then there is March's NewFO. I am starting a quilt for my daughter. She had emailed me a picture of a crib quilt but wanted it done as a queen size. The pattern was minimal and simplistic. So on EQ I drafted it to be her size The blocks will be rather large and the quilting will be done by hand in a big stitch quilting. Here is the fabric she had picked out a few years back and the

Some Scrappy Orange

I got a late start on this months   Even though I dug out my orange scraps a couple of weeks ago. I still do not have a design or plan for this months baby quilt. So I thought I would just start sewing strips together and then either leave it as a whole piece or just as fabric and start cutting out pieces. So I'll  just keep sewing and maybe something will pop into my head. I believe this my first post on  soscrappy  so I thought I would show Jan. and Feb.  Feb. Jan.  You have a great Easter

Refried Beans

I made some refried beans the other night and if you have had homemade you know how good they are and if you haven't you ought to give it a try. They are very easy to make. 1 cup dried pinto beans 3-4 Tbsp. bacon grease or lard (bacon grease does give it a great flavor) 1/4 chopped onions cumin to taste Start with cooking the beans until soft. Drain and set aside.  In a pan that's heavy enough to take the mashing of the beans, add the bacon grease and the onions and cook over a med heat until lightly brown.  Add the beans a little at a time with  a little water and mash. Can use a masher or the back of a spoon. The heat can be low or off while mashing. Add seasonings to desired taste. But when completely mash turn heat on to low and stir and simmer until thickened. I served mine with and egg dish called Migas, recipe in here Give it a try and if you do not want to cook beans from dried beans I don't know why you can't use canned.

It's Yarn Along Time

Boy this week has gone by so quickly, hard to believe it's Weds. I just want to say that the calf we have been nursing back to health is back out with it's Mom. I so hope with the milking we have done that she has enough left and will continue for the calf. She has been away from her Mom for 3 days. Now for what I'm knitting on is a matter of choice seeing how my goal for last week was to go through my stash and make an inventory of what I have and than stored back organize. And in the process of doing that I found projects I started and forgot about so now I have many to do. Clockwise; Top left 1 slipper, a green shawl, baby blue preemie hat, Prayer Shawl, and 1 sock. Which one will I'll start first.... Don't know yet. Did finish the socks and love the pattern. It will be one of the first ones I do after I finish the UFO's. I want to take time to thank everyone who left a comment last week on helping me figure out how to organize

What's Up

What is up today. I hope it is the sewing I wanted to get to this past weekend which I wasn't able to with the event of having a house guest, to know more here's a link Yes, I have had a calf in the house for the past 24 hours but she made it through the crisis and now she is in the garage for now. I still need to keep bottle feeding her and watching her to make sure she is strong enough to go back out to her mom.  The sooner the better for her. So what I plan on doing are the 2 months of Stash Bee blocks. These are the ones for my hive that I have to get done and in the mail. Tanya made this as an example Emily made this one as an example And then there is still my Get-R-Done for the month. I hope to have progress on those to show later this week. So there it is, a little sewing news and life on the farm news too

Calf Update

She is doing better. Made it through the day and even stood up and walked around a little. IN THE HOUSE. Did get another 24 oz down her. She should be eating twice the much but she is not uses to drinking from a bottle and she is still in a weaken state. But need to get fluids in her so she doesn't dehydrate. Here is another picture of her This doesn't happen often having a calf walking around your living room. The problem is they are not house broken.

My Slow Sunday

I have to admit it didn't start out slow here. Yesterday while the "Man of the Place" was out checking the cattle he notice the calf that Joy (one of Snicker's offspring) had last weekend wasn't doing well. So we moved her and the calf from the pasture up to the corral to try to figure out what was going on. The calf looks like it hasn't eaten in a while so we check Joy's utter and milk.  She looked as thou she hadn't nursed much and there was blood in her milk.  We decided to give the cow a shot of antibiotics and try to give the calf a bottle of milk replacement.  The little thing barely got down 3 cups. By this time it was around 4 in the afternoon and we would just let the calf digest that bottle and we would check on her in the morning.  Well wouldn't you know that this had to be the morning that cold front from the north finally made it with some snow. And the poor little calf had made no improvements, she was weaker. Had to take

Tonight's Friday Night Sew In

I forgot to mention earlier that it's FNSI Go over to Heidi's and check out who else is sewing tonight. I'm going to work on my daughter's quilt  I'm going to start stitching the rows together. I'm making this a short blurb so I can get back to sewing. I hope you are able to be sewing on something too.

So Sweet......

This is such a sweet story. Last Monday at a quilt group I belong to, at the end of the meeting there is always a time for show and tell. I look forward to see what everyone has been up too. We have such an eclectic group of talented ladies. A member named Sandy told as the story behind this quilt.  (I hope I get this right Sandy) While Sandy was visiting family she offered to make her young niece a quilt.  Her niece went and drew a picture of the quilt she would like that included her in the bed with her cat.   It included a short note;  Hi aunt Sandy i just wanted to thank you for offering to make me a quilt. Love Stella But she also went a little further and painted a picture of the quilt. I like the detail in the fabric strips. Polka dots, stars and stripes So Sandy had a good idea of what her niece would like. But then Sandy received an email with a picture of this quilt stated she like this one too So Sandy got busy and finished Stella a
