Refried Beans



I made some refried beans the other night and if you have had homemade you know how good they are and if you haven't you ought to give it a try. They are very easy to make.
1 cup dried pinto beans
3-4 Tbsp. bacon grease or lard (bacon grease does give it a great flavor)
1/4 chopped onions
cumin to taste

 Start with cooking the beans until soft.
Drain and set aside.

 In a pan that's heavy enough to take the mashing of the beans, add the bacon grease and the onions and cook over a med heat until lightly brown.
 Add the beans a little at a time with  a little water and mash. Can use a masher or the back of a spoon. The heat can be low or off while mashing. Add seasonings to desired taste. But when completely mash turn heat on to low and stir and simmer until thickened.

Give it a try and if you do not want to cook beans from dried beans I don't know why you can't use canned.

    Love beans in all forms and I cook them all the time. That pot of beans goes through several tranformations over the course of a week ;)

Yarn Along 2/20/13 Spoon Pin Doily

It's snowing here and I know some of you are tired of snow but here we will take the moisture any way we can get it. Plus it just gives me a reason to stay in and work on some of my projects. In this picture I'm not sure if you can make it out but in the background there are some wild turkeys that hang around the house sometime, just  chilling This project I'm working on is Spool Pin Doilies.   I had never heard of them before until Bonnie Hunter had mentioned it on her blog . She a had a viewer send her one for her sewing machine along with a pattern. I did not like the pattern but loved the idea so I decided to make up my own version. Countdown to Autumn. 18 days

  After some thought I came up with a general "get to" list for a pre - Autumn preparation. I had mentioned a couple in the last post. I will keep those and have added a few more. I needed to remind myself that a lot of my ideas are a little premature hance the pre autumn and will be better done next month. So here is what I came up with...
